One of the most important roles as a parent is to provide our children with nutrition. When this is a problem (for multiple reasons), no wonder it becomes so stressful, guilt ridden and emotional for families.
As a Mum and a Feeding therapist myself, I am always looking in to new ways to help at mealtimes.
It is often the simplest things that are the most effective! One of the first things I chat about to the families I support is ... SEATING.
I am all for the cheap basic highchairs - and both of my children use the Ikea Antilop bargain basement highchair that has been great... however the downside is that it doesn't have a footrest.
Feeding therapists (occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists etc) all agree that to get children to eat, they need to be in a good position...
FEET FLAT, BOTTOM BACK, SITTING READY is one of my therapy mantras and it really helps! You know when you're sitting on a high bar stool and don't like having your feet dangling? This is how the kids will feel!
I often advocate using makeshift footrests for those parents (like me) who have opted for the Ikea highchair, or similar, without a footrest... but I was thrilled to have stumbled across this lovely product on Instagram and I just had to share it with you!!!
The Nibble and Rest company have the answer! Adjustable footrests (either fabric or wood) to fit on your highchair! The Footsi® was invented by a Mum for other Mums.
Benefits include
Provides security and comfort for your child while sitting
Adjustable height to support you child as they grow
Allows child to sit upright with stability
Allows child's feet to be positioned 90 degrees from their legs
Encourages improved concentration on tasks while in high chair (e.g eating)
Allows for better hand to mouth co-ordination
Quick installation (no tools required)
Even better news... I have been in touch with the company and if you use the code 'Speechmum' you will get 10% off your order!
Have a look!
